Sanskrit Is The Identity Of Indian People

Sanskrit is the language of the universe, it is the language of cosmic atmosphere, said Baldevanand Sagar, famous Sanskrit news reader of All India Radio (AIR) during his visit to Ratnagiri. Sagar has been invited by Gogate Jogalekar College, Ratnagiri as Guest of Honour for Mahakavi Kalidas Series Of Lectures. The lectures will be delivered on 1 nd 2 March. On the eve of the series he had an informal interaction with journalists and media persons in Ratnagiri when he spoke about the linguistic power and comprehensiveness of Sanskrit.
Mr. Sagar received a warm welcome with the hands of Mrs.
Athlye, in picture his wife Mrs. Shalini.

“Sanskrit is the bedrock of our culture, it is our very identity,” said Mr. Sagar. He continued, “Sanskrit is a strong tool to connect this country within, it is beyond limits of certain sects or ides. Ancient Sanskrit literature did not mention words like Hindu and India, but stated and spread the generous thought of universality that is called vais’wik in this language.” He gave brief information of Sanskrit journalism in India and told how Sanskrit could become a connecting string between peoples speaking different Indian languages. Giving several examples of resemblance of structure and pronunciation of words derived from different language he demonstrated how easy it is for a Sanskrit knowing person to understand talking of any Indian citizen.
Responding to a question regarding the popular assumption that Sanskrit smacks to be the language of certain religious people he said the Sanskrit we hear is usually an application as the rituals. Giving the instance of a book written by Mr. Justice (retd) Markandey Katju he said that only 5 to 7 percent part of Sanskrit writing is occupied by religious rites and the rest speaks of philosophy and science. It is the nearest language to scientific view.
The writer of the first book on Sanskrit journalism in the same language Mr. Sagar communicated to the audience in a friendly and intimate manner. He sportily entertained questions and doubts. He demonstrated how extempore narrations are to be made at the arrival of sudden breaking news. He explained how Sanskrit is an able language to deal the quest of modern terminology stating that there are 22 prefixes and 200 suffixes that can form millions of words out of 2000 fundamental root verbs.

Mr. Sagar joined AIR as Sanskrit news reader with the very beginning of the department in 1974. He belongs to the first cadre of the three gazetted officers and presently been known as the interpreter of Prime Minister’s addresses of the ‘Man Ki Baat’ series. His wife Mrs. Shalini, In-charge of Sindhi Unit of External Service Division of All India Radio also accompanied him in the visit to Ratnagiri town. This programme was organized by Sanskrit department of Gogate Jogalekar College and anchored by its head Dr. Mrs. Kalpana Athalye.

to left Mr. Kharavtekar and Dr. Naik to extreme right

No longer may British Empire exist, the language of those rulers is still ruling over the world. The ability to communicate in English has its special importance in all affairs. The number of students adopting English as the medium of instruction right from their first day in the school is ever growing. However there is yet a great magnitude of people with fear of this language, especially when it comes to conversation. What Government College of Education at Ratnagiri did in the last week was exactly to remove this fear. A very rapid crash course of Spoken English was organized by the college to enable the ‘to be teacher students’ of the college speak fluent English.
The activity was carried on by a group of three teachers with major involvement of Masurkars’ Academy, a training provider solo enterprise based at Ratnagiri. Considering the short period of the course limited only to a week the goal was set for public speaking training. Dr. Mrs. Jyotsna Thakoor, Principal of the college spoke in the inaugural programme that despite being competent in their subjects and teaching skill most of the students are hit by inability to talk English. She expressed her regret for rejection of the students by English medium schools in surrounding area.
The programme was designed to meet the exact needs - removal of all inferiority complexes and make the participants brush their knowledge. Keeping them engaged with spoken English training throughout college hours did much. The morning sessions were conducted by Rajendraprasad Masurkar and the afternoon sessions by Prof. Dr. Naik and Visiting professor Ankush Kharavatekar. Innovative games of words and usage of computer aids by them fast drove the students recollect their passive vocabulary. Mrs. Taree, a guest expert taught the skill of understanding unheard words and reacting.
Mr. Masurkar stressed on motivating the students to talk without fear, easy sentence making, grammar and fluent reading. He also prepared the students for mutual interaction and timely conversation.
On the last day of the programme a short stage function was organized. The students delivered speeches, presented interview and conducted debate.
Individual speeches were delivered by Miss. Shruti from FY.B.Ed and Mr..Sunil from SY.B.Ed. A short act of Principal and intern was played by Mrs. Anupriya Mirajkar (in the role of Principal) and Mrs.Tejaswini Chandane (in the role of intern). It was a fair display of their imagination ability in which Principal interviewed the intern to test her preparation for trial lesson.
In the last demo a debate on ‘women’s education after marriage’ was chaired by Mrs. Suvarna from S.Y.B.Ed. There were two speakers that expressed their views. Mr. Kiran spoke on positive side of the topic. Miss. Mayuri spoke on the negative side of the topic.
The programme was ended with the presiding address of Principal Dr. Mrs.Thakoor. She expressed satisfaction for realization of her dream project praising the activity as fruitful and appealed the student for correctness of the language and to maintain sustained practice of speaking.
Miss. Urfa Ambedkar, an F.Y. student anchored both inaugural and valedictory functions with a commendable English narration. The Vote of Thanks was given by Miss. Aisha Borkar from FY.

A Wonderful School Is Arriving
Schooling is undergoing changes. The parents are realizing that their children are no longer receiving education enabling them to face challenges. What is produced is no less than human robots. A young lady Neha Pitre from Deorukh, a small town in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra, was seeking to enroll her child to nursery school.  But she had a question; will this education really mould the child into a proficient guy? Or simply roll out a bookish bod? She was afraid the present education system would do nothing but make her child a machine to earn marks and would pack its brain with info and data.
The restless Neha rushed to her relative Mr. Ajit Karkare, who has been conducting a Cambridge Board day school near Dombivali. He asked, why you yourself don’t start a school that will mould not only your child but generations. Oh! That was so nice; Neha got inspired and swung into action. She thought Ratnagiri as a suitable town for the enterprise.   She had witnessed Ajit Karkare’s achievement throughout a long period of almost two decades, the remarkable success of his school as a teaching place that enables students to earn high exam merit and as a  moulding unit that brings out ranges of smart versatile youth.
Karkare believes the present education is not useful for survival, nor it provides capacity to grow. If you say about the knowledge a computerised gadget against a few thousand rupees feeds you with a lot of info, claims Karkare. He displays a short film before media persons at Ratnagiri showing how interestingly that small machine helps a family obtain info right form a recipe to text in chemistry. What matters how your children learn and not how much. Karkare gave an example of how the questions being asked in exams conducted by regular boards and Cambridge differ. A regular board examiner expects the answer to be found from given passage while the Cambridge one motivates the candidate to express his own.
He stated the Cambridge Board asks to write one’s reaction to an opinion of a senior citizen about something, in both polite and defiant modes. How interesting! In short he created a vivid picture of what Neha is going to initiate.
The school will start from coming academic year, holding nursery classes. There will be no school bags, no tuitions, and no uniform dress. The children will freely play, discuss and know; will be provided lunch and their young moms would neither to worry for every day Tiffin menu nor will the kids pull on with junk food. The school hours are a little longer and the children will spend more time in educative atmosphere.

The idea of school without a bag and conducted on the basis of Gurukul is not new to Ratnagiri. Already such schools are there. What is novel for this town is the wonderful atmosphere.
There will not be any shortage of teachers as one teacher per twenty students is their scheduled staff strength; and there will be noises and sounds of children’s citation and singing, but no chaos which is a usual scene in schools today, thanks to complete failure of the system. Parents interested may inquire at 7888056699 (Neha Pitre).
